Dresses being feminine is a social construct! :foams at mouth:

Ahh, but what isn’t a social construct? The word peach meaning peach is a social construct, and may change with the passage of time, but most people still recognize the link.

There are two ways to subvert gender: denying it completely, or acting subversively within convention. The latter, imho, is the dandy way :)

Greetings from Germany!

I’ve been following your blog for a while now and I really love it.

I’m a designer and tailor from Germany, although I mainly focus on historical clothing, I’ve always liked to wear men’s clothes since I was 16 (I’m more than twice as old now :) ) - this is the latest creation I made for myself, had the fabric for a long time in my stash now. The jacket is not finished yet but I had to try it on today during my work on it - hope you don’t mind that the buttons are still missing - I will make some more pictures as soon as it’s done. This is just a quick self portrait but I like it very much so I could not resist to send it to you.

Shirt, tie and the complete suit are made to measure by myself :)

Rosa, this is jawdropping — those trim lines pop! And it clearly fits you so perfectly! I’m happy that someone so talented enjoys femme-dandying ;)

Dandy suits on Soul Train → good.is

I found out about this through Kate Beaton’s twitter.  The video isn’t high enough quality for me to get any real good screen caps that will do some of these outfits (or the dancers) justice.  But are some pretty dandy-rific suits at 1:15 and 1:28!

AS IF NEEDED ANOTHER EXCUSE TO DANCE TO DAFT PUNK

do you think it's at all possible to do dandy (or dandyish) in a dress? i would so love to adopt some dandy fashions, but dresses! the idea of giving up dresses hurts me deeply, so i must fall to my knees and pray for guidance from the gods of all things fashionable.

To be quite honest, I think not, dear reader, though I am willing to be convinced otherwise. There is plenty to be done in a dress— including pairing a dress with masculine accessories and other genderfuckery— but I can’t picture anyone with a dress evoking the dandy essence for me.

But genderfluidity is a grand thing! And the gods of all things fashionable praise experimentation! You can be a dandy one day and a dandy-ish person in a dress another and flutter around nymphlike with flowers in your hair the next! Or you can be a quaintrelle! You are vast, dear reader, and contain multitudes: no need to give up dresses to be a dandy!

“It’s hard to imagine anyone as extravagant as Lady Gaga existed before Madonna, let alone before the women’s female rights movement, but one such eccentric did exist in early 20th century Europe. At a time when the concept of dandy was expanding to include women, an Italian heiress, muse, and patroness of the arts, the Marchesa Luisa Casati emerged as the brightest celebrity style icon in European society. Before female dandyism was associated with the masculine look, it simply implied a beautifully dressed or over-dressed woman. Unbeknownst to many, the Marchesa is possibly the most artistically represented woman in history after the Virgin Mary and Cleopatra– her influence is all around us.” —

Who was the original Lady Gaga? Hint: it wasn’t Madonna
(via hommequaintrelle)

This article is about quaintrelles— more specifically, the Marchesa Luisa Casati, who is thought by some to be the original quaintrelle. So this has more application to homme quaintrelles, but there’s a great shoutout to femme dandies at the end.

Just thought it might be relevant to your (and your follower's) interests that I'm setting up a tumblr to share where I've found some nice dandy-themed things in small sizes online. Click through to see it (I've only just started it today, mind).

It most certainly is! This is quite a public service. Cheers to you, petit-dandy!
